It makes me wake up in the middle of the night feeling scared, but also excited. I have no idea what people are going to think of the book at all.
But I hope some people like it, I hope they are not disappointed by it! What do we do with this? How do we respond to it?
How do we get through? Why is it beautiful and so difficult all at once? I love that quote so much, G. Chesterton is amazing, I love him. I like it because nothing is static is it really? Particularly with animals. I think there is occasionally the need for complete stillness, as the questions are pretty poignant. They began slowly, bit by bit. I think the mole should be our national symbol, frankly. They are strange little creatures.
So the mole has always been around in my head. Then a vague narrative happened around them, and I was processing a lot of questions at the time about life and existence and I decided to put those thoughts into conversation. Why are we here? The pen and ink ones have rather a naive charm to them, there's excess lines giving the impression of space, where in other hands it would.
If I had to describe it, there's the sort of feeling I used to get reading Calvin and Hobbes. It doesn't matter what happens, the friendship is always going to be there in a quite profound level. That's what is in the heart of the book. The fact the book is about heart. And strength. And friendship. Charlie Mackesy: Readers draw comfort from words of kindness
I suppose some of the bits in it might sound trite, but the more than gorgeous artwork gives it depth and makes it easy to let go of one's cynicism. A truly lovely book full of kindness that says the kinds of things you sometimes need to hear and be reminded of. I wouldn't have discovered this if it weren't for the Waterston "Sometimes all you hear about is the hate, but there is more love in this world than you could possibly imagine.

I was under estimating this book because it looked really basic. However once I actually started reading this book I was amazed by the detail in the drawings which were a mixture of both water colours and sketches which linked with the story. I finished this book in one sitting and I was blown away and this book inspired me and to see the world in another view!
